Heart Healthy Lentils

Welcome back! Subscribe to enter the soup draw, offered several times per year.

arty6smHey ladies, how is your New Year’s resolution going?  February can be the month that makes or breaks your resolve, so we want to encourage you to stick with it, even though the hard times!

Did you know that Souptacular is easily incorporated into your Weight Watcher’s plan?  Our soups are high in fibre, low in fat, and score very low on the Weight Watcher’s points system.

Why should you care about fibre?  It’s not just about digestion:  it’s about heart health too.  On the Weight Watcher’s website, Dr. Joe Schwarcz, Director, McGill University Office for Science and Society, reminds us how beneficial soluble are for our hearts.

Soluble fibre binds with bile acids, which the liver produces and releases into the small intestine to aid digestion. These bile acids are synthesised in the liver from cholesterol, so as they are removed from the body by soluble fibre, they are replaced by fresh bile acids. The result is that blood cholesterol is used up and blood levels go down. Clinical studies have shown that as little as a cup and a half of oatmeal a day, or a cup of oat bran, can lower blood cholesterol by as much as some prescription drugs.

Quoted from Weight Watchers.

Add delicious fibre to your diet with these Souptacular soups, and get back on track with your healthier lifestyle! For the whole pot, which yields 8 cups, cooked with water:

Traditional Bean – 6 points

Lentil Lovers – 4 points

Autumn Harvest – 5 points

The above are the soups most commonly used with Weight Watchers because they incorporate crimson lentils.  Lentils keep your points down because they contain no fat and are a wonderful soluble fiber.  They are heart healthy, delicious, and soup-er satisfying.

Enjoy your diet.  ENJOY SOUPTACULAR!!

Customer Recipes: Split Pea by Taylor G.

Taylor G. is a regular Souptacular fan. This is his favorite way to guide the split pea into a easy and wonderful creation!

I buy a ham with the bone in and cook it. I remove most of the meat from the bone. In my slow cooker I add:

  • ham bone
  • Souptaculars’ split pea soup
  • 8 cups of water

Cook on high for 6 hours then remove the bone and whisk the soup well so it goes into a smooth texture. Then add:

  • 2-3 diced potatoes
  • 3 diced carrots
  • 1 cup of diced leftover ham

Continue cooking for the remaining 2 hours.
Deliciously easy!!

Thanks Taylor!
