Traditional Bean? or Chili – Recipe by Anne D., Airdrie, Alberta

Welcome back! Subscribe to enter the soup draw, offered several times per year.

Anne has a very hearty variation on the Traditional Bean soup. She says:

I add a low sodium beef broth (3cups) and the remainder, water. Cook on stove or I like it in the slow cooker. When it’s done, it looks like a thick stew or chili. I then add:

  • 1 can of kidney beans
  • 1 pound fried lean hamburger
  • 1 can diced tomatoes or salsa
  • 1 cup diced carrots and potatoes
  • 1 heaped tablespoon chili powder

Now you have enough chili to feed an army. Freezes great for lunches too!

Love your soup, or rather chili!

Thanks Anne! We will!

Split Pea with Macaroni – by Jacob G., Red Deer, Alberta

Jacob G. has a great adaptation for our Split Pea soup, perfect for picky kids:

My children are very picky eaters and I heard from a friend that kids seem to like your soup. I bought the split pea and a few others at the St. Albert Market this summer. I cooked the split pea according to the directions in the slow cooker, with water.

Later I added:

  • carrots
  • potatoes
  • celery
  • 1/2 cup elbow macaroni

I know the macaroni idea sounds strange but my picky kids love macaroni! It worked great and we all inhaled it.

Thanks for keeping your soups low in sodium. They are great just as they are. Can’t wait to try the rest!

Thanks Jacob!
